In honor of today’s release of the Apple iPhone, which has had zealous fans lining up days before its release:
a) How much would you spend on a cell phone? ($0-$150, $150-$300, $300+)
b) How many hours would you wait in line in order to buy a newly released phone?
c) What features do you require on your cell phone? (Photos, video, texts, email, internet, etc.)

a) I am willing to spend $150-300
b) I would prefer to not wait in line but to try to already have a demo of the product
c) Data (email, web browsing capabilities) and Phone
The iPhone seems like a neat breakthrough, especially going with a non-physical keyboard entirely. The multimedia features are superb.
a) As little as possible– $100 or less.
b) None. Ok, maybe a couple if the phone were super awesome & 3 other friends came with me so I wasn’t completely bored.
c) People’s phone numbers & a dial tone.
Last year I had a Treo 700w, courtesy of my work. This promptly led to a gross dependence on email, internet browsing, and blogging.
Fortunately, the phone was stolen & I acquired a Motorola C139, a shameless dinosaur of a phone. Its best feature is long battery life, which is a result of the phone having no other features to speak of.
I’ve now upgraded to your basic, non-descript Samsung flip phone, and I couldn’t be happier.
I’ve always used the free phone. In fact, I now carry 2 phones and one is a hand-me-down. Of course, I only carry it because my family uses Stinkular and they want to talk to me for free.
My other phone, the Motorola Q, is the first phone I’ve ever purchased. I also looked at the Treo and Blackberry, but settled with the Q.
Overall I’m happy with it, full keyboard, tilted keys for easier entry, texting, pics, email, and web.
I know absolutely nothing about the iPhone (it appears to be an overhyped device) but I don’t stand in line for things (movies, phones, game consoles, etc.). I like to think that I have a life and besides I would rather someone else test it out first so I’m not fighting the bugs.
I’ve tried to spend as little as possible, but jumped on the treo bandwagon and paid >$300 this past may for one-but with sweet deals i think it came to $150 total (if you’re going to buy one, go at the end of the month where they are desperate to meet their quota!)
I’ve only stood in a long line for:
A. Peter Pan ride at Disneyland
and B. Pirates of the Carribean 3 (which I could be persuaded either way on whether it was worth it-although I bought my treo that day so I had a good amount of time to learn the features)
I use the phone, calendar text and email mainly but web browsing is nice (we are going on a cross country trip and while I know I won’t have access all the way, I know I’ll have more than without)
a) Up till recently, I’ve always used the free phone that came with the contract, but last month, I broke down and paid $30 for a phone after my last one broke.
b) Zero. I don’t do lines unless there’s food involved.
c) Address book, caller ID, camera (because I never remember to carry my real camera).
a) $500+
b) ZERO
c) telephony, mp3 player, fast internet, bluetooth, text, camera
a.) $43.26 no more, no less.
b.) 4 minutes and 11 seconds tops.
c.) Polyphonic ring-tones, thats about it, I guess it would be nice if it made phone calls.
a) $300+ I have had a Palm phone since my Kyocera Smartphone so long ago.
b) I waited in the iPhone line just to film the festivities. How’s that for insane?
c) I require a USB modem so I can get my laptop online when I’m out in the boonies. I didn’t realize how important that was until I found out the iPhone DIDN’T have that feature.
1) When upgrading phones, I’d never spend more than double what I can get for my old one
2) Queue? To buy a phone? Why for??
3) Calls & text. Everything else is just guff.
